Hempstead, TX Hempstead, TX Full-time Full-time $60,939 - $69,895 a year $60,939 - $69,895 a year 2 days ago 2 days ago 2 days ago We are searching for a 4-H Program Director (Experienced 4-H Extension Agent, FFA Instructor/Teacher) to direct and manage the farming/ranching operations, livestock, and all agricultural and vocational related programs for Safe Haven Youth Ranch/Charter School campus.
Provide youth with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
The 4-H Program Director (Experienced 4-H Extension Agent, FFA Instructor/Teacher) is responsible for facilitating the 4-H youth development after-school/summer program.
The Safe Haven Youth Ranch 4-H Club is a private club of the Waller County Extension Office for youth who reside on campus.
Youth in 4-H will learn about citizenship, leadership, foods and nutrition, healthy lifestyles, veterinary science, mechanics and technology, horticulture, agriculture, and other subjects.
To teach youth about these subjects, the 4-H program uses the learn-by-doing method of instruction.
In addition to offering fun projects and activities, the 4-H youth development program aids youth in developing personal skills crucial in the youth becoming more independent.
Educational and Professional
Qualifications:
Must have at least a Bachelor's degree from accredited university in agricultural science; with 2-3 years of experience as a 4-H Extension Agent and/or FFA Instructor/Teacher with knowledge and experience specific to robotics, agriculture and livestock (i.
e.
steers, goats, sheep, rabbits and poultry) projects development.
Preferred Candidate:
Have a valid Texas teaching certificate in agricultural science and special education; or have one year of experience providing special educational services for children/youth with an emotional disorder is preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Knowledge of agricultural science and FFA best practices (prior teaching/student teaching experience preferred) Ability to obtain industry certifications related to courses taught, as needed Ability to supervise agricultural field experiences/projects Ability to manage the raising of livestock projects at the Safe Haven Farm/SHYR 4-H Club animal housing facilities Ability to collaborate with local extension office (Waller County) Ability to provide professional communication with students, program staff, community members, and all other stakeholders at all times Ability to follow guidelines related to money handling, equipment/supply inventory, and use of SHYR or SHYR-rented vehicles Ability to work extended hours - including nights, weekends, and summer Work Schedule/Hours:

Safe Haven Youth Ranch is a trauma-informed residential program that offers a unique approach to achieving healing and recovery.
The program combines the use of evidence-based trauma treatment interventions, 4-H youth development programing and individualized behavior skills training as a treatment alternative to youth who have experienced severe traumatic childhood life events of extreme abuse and neglect.
These experiences are often frequently exacerbated by the youth's involvement in the foster care systems.
Population Served:
Safe Haven Youth Ranch accepts male youth ages 10-17 with emotional disorders.
The youth served at the Ranch are most commonly referred to the program after having experienced multiple foster home placements and/or psychiatric hospital stays.
As a result, the youth feel rejected, minimized, and disempowered.
It is our goal to help youth overcome their past experiences by offering a safe, stable, and family farm-life learning environment for youth to heal, grow, and thrive.
